Do I Need A Pre Wedding Shoot?

You may have seen photographers posting about “Pre-Wedding Shoots” or an “Engagement Shoots” on social media. And you might find yourself thinking “what are they?” and “do I need one?”

Let me tell you exactly what they are, and whether it might be goof for you to do before your wedding.

A pre-wedding shoot is exactly what it says, a shoot before your wedding. A couple shoot just for you and your partner.

You’ll meet your photographer at a location agreed beforehand – maybe a beach or park, or somewhere special to you as a couple. Then you’ll be guided through a photoshoot together by your photographer.

They usually last around 40 mins – 1 hour.

What is an engagement shoot?

An Engagement Shoot is pretty much the same thing! The difference is, you may be newly engaged and not actually planning your wedding yet but want some photos to mark the occasion.

It can also be a great opportunity to see if the photographer you have chosen works in a way that you feel comfortable with, before you decide to book them for your wedding itself.

So, Do I Need one?

The biggest benefit for you as a couple, is that you get to feel what it’s like to be photographed. You get a good understanding of how your photographer works, and how they’ll take your photos on your big day.

The aim of the shoot is to put you at ease in front of the camera, and to help you to feel relaxed.

The bonus is, you get lots of lovely couple photos to share! Couples often use these as Save the Date cards or for framed photos for guests to sign at their wedding.

How I work during your pre-wedding shoot

We begin by taking a walk, and I’ll ask you to walk ahead of me together hand in hand. I capture you talking, smiling and looking at each other as you go. Then I’ll ask you to turn around and walk back towards me doing the same.

From there I’ll take a range of distance and closer shots, guiding you as we go.

I like to make it feel easy, un-pressured and light. I don’t want you to feel awkward and uncomfortable!

What I’m capturing is your interactions with each other. The way you are together, they way you smile at each other and laugh together – and you always end up laughing at some point!

And before you know it, it’s done! You then head off for a nice lunch or a walk and I head home to work on your gallery.

Is A pre-Wedding Shoot For Me?

Every couple that I have done a pre-wedding shoot for has gone on to say how relaxed it was!

They all felt much happier about being photographed on their actual wedding day. The nerves around having their photos taken disappeared, and they realised it wasn’t half as nerve wracking as they thought!

If you are the type of person who is feeling anxious about being photographed on your wedding day, then I would whole heartedly say yes, you will really benefit from having a pre-wedding shoot. Just let your photographer know how you are feeling, and they will put you at ease and those worried feelings will soon disappear.

And when it comes to your wedding day you’ll be feeling so much happier!

If you are the type of person who feels completely happy and relaxed in front of the camera, you still might like to have one! You’ll see how your photographer works, plus you’ll have some gorgeous couple photos at the end of it!
