Newborn Photography

Where does my newborn shoot take place?

Being a lifestyle photographer, I like to photograph your newborn in your own home because this gives the most natural photographs.

My style is a mixture of natural shots and some that are gently posed. However, I don’t do the typical newborn studio shots (beanbags, tightly wrapped up in fluffy hats). I prefer to take images at home because they feel more real and look authentic. This gives you images of your baby just as they are, happy and relaxed in their own surroundings.

When is the best age for my baby to have a shoot?

As a guide the ‘ideal’ age for a newborn baby to be photographed is before they are 10 days old. The reason for this is because this is when they are most likely to sleep more during the day and therefore allows chance to get those lovely curled up ‘sleeping’ shots. They change so much during the first 2 weeks so therefore it’s lovely to capture them in those early days.

This may not always be possible though and I will of course photograph your baby at any age. After around 10 days they have a growth spurt, and it is more likely that baby’s eyes will be open, and they will be more stretched out. This is still very gorgeous and there are no rules as to when you should have your photographs taken.

How far in advance should I book my shoot?

You can book your shoot as early as you like but during the second trimester is usually a good time. I will schedule you in for the week after your due date but don’t worry if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected. We will keep in touch, and I will book an exact date with you when you are ready.

Can I be in the photos?

Absolutely! I love to include parents in a newborn shoot because it Is the perfect opportunity to have images with your baby. A new baby is a family occasion and I love capturing parents and siblings too and even the family pet! A photograph of you together as a family is special and something you might not have the chance to get very often! So, I whole heartedly encourage everyone to be involved and get in on the shoot.

How long does it take?

The length of time for each photo session can vary with each baby. For example, it may take 1.5 hours, or it may take up to 4 hours depending on the baby at the time.

Having 2 children myself I remember all too well that newborn babies will sleep when they want and cry when they want! I don’t want you to feel worried if they cry and won’t settle though because it’s completely normal.

I allow for this, and so when your baby needs feeds and cuddles we just take a break and continue afterwards when you are both ready.

What should my baby wear?

My newborn photographs are taken with baby either clothed or naked and so it is completely your choice what they wear. If you prefer your baby to be clothed, then just bear in mind they will look better if their outfit isn’t too big as some clothes can often swamp a tiny baby!

I recommend having a few different outfits and I’m very happy for changes of clothes. Sometimes it can’t be helped anyway so it’s good to have options on standby!

If you want to be in the photographs too (which I totally encourage!) think about wearing something neutral, for example, plain soft tones work best and won’t be distracting.

How do I book?

Family Photography

Where should I have my shoot done?

You can decide on the location of your family photography shoot. There may be a special place that has meaning to you or that you simply love. Alternatively, I can suggest some places that I know work well. Think about whether you’d like a beach shoot or perhaps you might prefer a more floral setting? Perhaps a nice park or garden might be where you’d like to go? If you look through my gallery on the Families page it may give you some ideas too.

What should we wear?

Once you’ve decided where you’d like your family photography shoot to take place, we can discuss colours that would work well in your chosen environment. Generally speaking, soft, neutral tones work well in most cases. But most importantly it’s good to show your personalities, so whatever you love the most & feel happy in.

How many images will I get?

You will receive approximately 30 images in both screen and print resolution. These will have been edited individually. If you want to order prints or albums you can do this too afterwards.

When will I get my images?

I aim to have your images ready within 4 weeks. During very busy times of year this may be a bit longer, but I try to get your images to you within the timescale.
