Still searching for “Wedding Photographers Near Me?” – How to find your perfect wedding photographer

When beginning your search for your perfect wedding photographer the first search you might make is “Wedding photographers near me”.

Now whilst this may make sense because your venue might be nearby, it doesn’t mean your photographer needs to be. You might automatically think a wedding photographer near you might be the obvious search to do, but I want to let you know that it’s not your only option!

In fact you could be limiting yourself. You could be missing out on your ideal photographer simply by limiting your search to your local area!

Yes, you might find your ideal photographer lives around the corner – and that’s great! But if you’re struggling to find that ideal person to photograph your wedding day it doesn’t mean you have to settle for those near you.

Since becoming a professional wedding photographer in South Wales I have made amazing friendships and connections with so many fantastic photographers from all over the U.K.

One thing I notice that most of us have in common is our love to travel to shoot weddings! Most wedding photographers are very happy and actively keen to photograph weddings in locations far from where they live.

Photographing Different Venues & Locations

As a photographer, I get inspired by new places and find it so exciting to capture a wedding day somewhere new. Seeing your venue and surrounding area as a fresh pair of eyes allows me to feel very excited and inspired from the start.

To me, my photography is art and I love creating beautiful new imagery set in a variety of backdrops. Telling stories is what my photography is about. Documenting your wedding day to show the beginning, middle and the end with all the amazing fun moments in between!

Travelling allows me to tell even more amazing love stories! Whether that may be a boho wedding on a Cornish beach, a Cotswold countryside wedding, a barn wedding in Dorset or a glamorous wedding at a Country Estate in the heart of England. I love them equally and thrive on the variety of beauty each one gives.

How I Work Away From Home

I research the area of the wedding and the venue itself before shooting every wedding. This is so I am familiar with the setting and where I need to be. Whether it be 300 miles away or on my doorstep, the preparation is the same. Whilst a wedding meeting in person is lovely, it isn’t absolutely essential if distance or time doesn’t allow. Instead we can have FaceTime meetings at each stage of your planning. So whilst I might not be a wedding photographer near you, it doesn’t affect how I work with you. You can rest assured knowing I am fully prepared for your day and knowing all the details. Any of my previous couples will tell you how I love to be organised!

When shooting a wedding away from home I stay the night before the wedding and usually the night of the wedding itself. This is to be as near to your venue as possible and avoid a crazy early This ensures that I arrive fresh and in good time for your wedding. Being away from home the night before a wedding also gives me chance to prep well for your big day. Often I will take a trip to the venue the day before the wedding to have a good look around. I can familiarise myself with it and think about where I think photographs might work best too. If you are up for meeting me there it’s also a good opportunity to go over any last minute details.

Wedding Photography Style

One thing each wedding has in common for me is the way I go about photographing each one. So whilst wedding venues and locations may vary, my practice and style of photography is consistent with each one. Using light and nature to create beautiful portraits, my love of romantic natural imagery runs throughout. Along with my documentary style of photography, naturally capturing all the candid real moments as your day unfolds.

So while you are thinking about your wedding photography and possibly about to type the words “Wedding Photographers Near Me”, have a think and ask yourself, “what is the style of photographer I am looking for?” or “what style of photos do I want?”

Fine tune your search a little and that way you will aim your search at your ideal wedding photographer. The one who is going to give you the type of images you want.

You’ll avoid having a page full of wedding photographers who aren’t necessarily the ones you are looking for. Instead you’ll have a page of photographers who are just your style!

For example –  “Lifestyle Wedding Photography” or “Documentary Wedding Photography” or “Fine Art Wedding Photography”. Try searching for a particular style and you will see photographers who are all photographing weddings in that particular genre.

Think about the colours and tones of the photographs, the contrast and the light. Do you love “light & airy” or do you prefer “dark & moody?” or “warm & earthy?” There is a huge difference in wedding photography style and once you know which one you love the most it makes choosing your perfect wedding photographer so much easier.

If you fall in love with a photographer who isn’t in your area, why not contact them? Ask if they will travel to photograph your wedding? You may well be surprised to see that they will!

Some Of My Work

I have been lucky to photograph weddings in various parts of the U.K. and have loved every single one. Some have been whilst working as a second photographer for one of my network of wedding photographer friends. Other times clients have found me by searching for my style of photography. My style of photography is “Lifestyle Wedding Photography”. This means I photograph weddings in a natural way to tell the story of your day. I combine gently styled portraits with documentary style wedding photography to give you a mixture of stunning portraits and relaxed candid photos.

Below are some of my favourite images that I have photographed at weddings outside of South Wales. Amongst them are some images from  a wedding at The Roman Baths, this was a particularly gorgeous wedding! If you are looking for somewhere a bit different to get married then I highly recommend this venue!

And check out my shoot in Venice for some destination inspiration!
